Understand the Brain-Body Connection

Learn why movement, balance, coordination, core strength, and visual skills matter in the classroom, and how they contribute to everyday skills like sitting, writing, reading, following directions, and participating in learning.

Get Practical Activities You'll Actually Use

Walk away with simple movement breaks, classroom games, handwriting activities, visual challenges, and ways to combine movement with academics. Most require little or no special equipment and can fit into what you're already doing.

Support Development in Your Classroom

Create more opportunities for children to practice foundational skills through movement, play, and everyday classroom activities. No diagnosing or treating, just purposeful ways to support development while kids learn.

About This Course

You know the feeling: it’s 10 AM and half the class can’t sit still. One student is struggling with handwriting. Another gets lost during transitions or has trouble following directions. By the afternoon, everyone seems to need to MOVE. What we sometimes forget is just how much the brain and body work together in the classroom. Sitting upright, holding a pencil, tracking words across a page, maintaining attention, and coordinating movement all rely on foundational developmental skills. This course will help you better understand that brain-body connection and, more importantly, give you simple activities you can actually use. We’ll take common classroom challenges and turn them into opportunities for movement and development through wall mazes, hopscotch, balance and coordination activities, visual games, purposeful brain breaks, and ways to incorporate movement into reading, spelling, math, and language. Most activities require little or no special equipment and can be incorporated into what you’re already doing. This isn't about diagnosing or treating developmental or neurological conditions. It's about giving children more opportunities to move, practice foundational skills, and learn through their whole bodies. You'll leave with practical tools you can use tomorrow, and ideas you can return to throughout the school year.

About Us

At Heal Thyself Institute, we work with children and families every day who are looking for answers to challenges with attention, coordination, handwriting, movement, sensory processing, learning, and development. Our approach looks beyond the symptom or behavior to better understand the brain-body connection and the foundational skills a child uses throughout the day. Dr. Waldo Amadeo, DC uses functional neurology approaches in his work with pediatric neurodevelopment, with a focus on areas including primitive reflexes, balance, coordination, eye movements, and sensory-motor development. Alyssa Ashby is our Patient Care Coordinator and Functional Nutritionist, with a background in Social Work and health coaching and training in functional neurology and functional medicine. She works closely with families to help turn complex information into practical strategies they can actually use in everyday life. We created this course because many of the activities we use to support development don't have to live inside a clinical setting. Children benefit from opportunities to move, balance, coordinate their bodies, use their eyes, cross midline, build strength, and learn through movement. This course brings those concepts into the classroom in a way that's practical for educators, without asking teachers to diagnose or treat anything.

Ready to Bring More Movement Into Learning?

You don't need to completely change your classroom to give children more opportunities to move, build skills, and learn. Start with simple, purposeful activities you can use throughout the school day, and build from there.
